An amazing
find, this is the only existing material for their first gig of their
last North American visit. The clip shows the whole band playing a completely new setlist. Unfortunately, there's no music available,
but judging of what we have from Oklahoma show two days later, they might have been
sounded very rusty and unrehearsed.

This is the first known audio from the tour, but the band is extremely sloppy, and Jimmy is so incompetent that he
plays some solos in completely wrong keys! The Song Remains The Same
is the new opener, after which they play a few bars of The Rover as
an introduction to Sick Again that is completely botched. The first
taped appearance of Nobody's Fault But Mine follows, and sounds just
fair. In My Time Of Dying is significantly disjointed during a very
sloppy guitar solo, and Since I've Been Loving You is just a tad better.
He and Bonham join in for an upbeat vamp halfway through the piano
solo during No Quarter, which sounds rather uneven after all. Ten
Years Gone has also its live premiere here, and it sounds more like
an outtake with Page messing around. Bonzo joins the band at the front
of the stage for the live version of The Battle Of Evermore, which
features Jones singing the Sandy Denny vocal line, making this
song a real gem. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp is preceded by an abbreviated rendition
of Black Country Woman, and this combo sounds good. The first performance
of White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song medley since many years is linked
non-stop with Kashmir in a dramatic reveal, but yet again Jimmy is
ugly lost in many spots. Bonham's drum solo has been renamed Over
The Top and now features an instrumental Out On The Tiles opening
riff. Another Presence newbie, rather lackluster version of Achilles
Last Stand is preceded by an experimental guitar solo, which replaces
Dazed And Confused as the venue for a frenzy bow solo section. Another
interesting addition, but the whole band losing each other in the
arrangement that even Bonzo misses the track and launches into the
frantic rhythm section before as the medley continues. Stairway To
Heaven is again the set closer, and a hurried Rock And Roll and Trampled
Underfoot with a chopped guitar solo are the encores.

Opening
night for the four night stand in Chicago and beginning of the problems
with firecrackers. Listen! Before we start,
can we ask you one thing? Can you stop throwing those firecrackers,
'coz we want to give you a lot of music, but we're not going to fight
with firecrackers? Ok? Plant said before the
sonic assault of The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again combo. Page
tears through a blistering guitar solo during Nobody's Fault But Mine
and the whole band provide a strong and vigorous version of In My
Time Of Dying, but Bonham seems to be a bit lost during some spots.
Jimmy's solo in Since I've Been Loving You is excellent. He really
tortures his guitar, making it scream and moan. No Quarter is also
interesting and has a great solo from Page, but Ten Years Gone is
killed by unrehearsed and sloppy playing from him instead. Going To
California is delicate and followed by Plant singing a few lines of
Elvis Presley's Surrender, but Jimmy's guitar is painfully out of
tune during White Summer and its medley. He spends most of
the medley trying to compensate for the problem, but to no avail.
Bonham provides a heavy and yet not much expanded drum solo in Over
The Top, and the improvised guitar solo is married again by the problems
with the guitar. Page has trouble keeping up also during Achilles
Last Stand, and the song sounds rushed and erratic. The band closes
the show with a somewhat chaotic Rock And Roll and Trampled Underfoot,
with Jimmy shredding through an aggressive but very erratic guitar
solo.

Finally,
a rather fair performance, sadly shortened due to hockey play-offs
at the same time as the band had to leave the arena early and made
a space for the following night. Bonham thrashes wildly at anything
within reach during a frantic The Song Remains The Same. Page's fingers
become entangled in the strings during the first guitar solo in Sick
Again, but they all deliver a strong version of Nobody's Fault But
Mine. Because of mentioned restrictions, they dropped In My Time Of
Dying, and play a very emotional rendition of Since I've Been Loving
You. Jimmy plays excellently, building an emotional climax. No Quarter
is a rather mixed version. While Jones' piano section is inspired,
Page shreds erratically sounding guitar solo, lacking some of its
intensity. Ten Years Gone sounds usually disjoined a bit, but this
time Jimmy is able to play his parts fairly smoothly. A typically
great acoustic set follows, and White Summer features an eerily beautiful
passage during Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song section. The crowd
erupts as Kashmir kicks in and the song is simply heavy. Due to the
fragmentary nature of the tape, all of the Moby Dick, Guitar
Solo and most of Achilles Last Stand are not achieved. The show-closing
Rock And Roll is a cacophonous explosion of energy, and is the only
encore, as Trampled Underfoot is another song that had to be removed
from the setlist.

This
is the gig where Jimmy passes out due to food poisoning just an hour
into the show. The playing is very gutsy and inspired at some points,
although several times his timing is off completely, obviously confusing
the rest of the band. While The Song Remains The Same sounds good
and Sick Again is intense, he plays a large portion of the intro to
Since I've Been Loving You a cappella before realizing he's jumped
ahead of the setlist. He shreds erratically through the guitar solo
in Nobody's Fault But Mine, which features a great voice and harmonica
from Robert. In My Time Of Dying is yet again dropped in favor of
now-fully played decent rendition of Since I've Been Loving You. The
ominous piano solo during No Quarter is met with a series of loud
whistles from the crowd. Page nails throughout the song better than
anytime before, making this section emotional. He also solos wildly
during the long and haunting outroduction. After a long pause following
a lackluster Ten Years Gone with a botched guitar solo, Plant announces
that Jimmy is ill and they going to take some break. Some time
after, Richard Cole explains that the show is over, and a loud buzz
from a disappointed audience can be heard.

The
fourth and final night at Chicago Stadium, with overall intense playing
from the whole band. It begins with a brief soundcheck before The
Song Remains The Same comes thundering out of the gate. Bonham has
become the band's main driving force, hammering at his drums with
incredible intensity, what is very noticeable during a massive Sick
Again. Nobody's Fault But Mine is devastatingly heavy, where Page
shreds furiously through a blistering guitar solo. In My Time Of Dying
is a cacophonous sonic assault with a bit of You Shook Me lyrics at
the end, making a nice come-back of that interlude. Since I've Been
Loving You features a great guitar solo, and the whole band smokes
during a really atmospheric version of No Quarter. Following the upbeat
honky tonk interlude, Jones switches back to the electric piano for
the instrumental section, but Jimmy wanders aimlessly through an out
of tune guitar solo. As always on this tour, Ten Years Gone is full
of mistakes courtesy by Page. The acoustic section features a delicate
interplay between Jimmy, Robert and and Jonesy. Plant again sings
a couple lines of Elvis Presley's Surrender as the band prepares for
Black Country Woman, after which a change in the setlist happens,
and where Trampled Underfoot follows as the next song. Robert delivers
a powerful performance during a thunderous Kashmir, and Page's fingers
become entangled in the strings during Achilles Last Stand. The crowd
erupts as the set-closing Rock And Roll crashes into motion as the
only encore.

This
is all that is known to exist from this very enjoyable concert. Things
get off to a shaky start, with Jimmy struggling to find his footing
a little bit during The Song Remains The Same. He also botches the
middle solo in Sick Again. Bonham is playing extremely well and is
really driving during Nobody's Fault But Mine. In My Time Of Dying
is absent due to a tape cut possibly. Page's fingers get stuck in
the strings again throughout Since I've Been Loving You. On the other
hand, Jones' dramatic piano solo in No Quarter is introduced by a
series of ghostly moans from the Theremin over the thunderous rumbling
of Bonham's tympani. The upbeat interlude continues to expand and
features an outstanding hard rock workout, and Jimmy delivers a very
good guitar solo. Robert tries to calm down the audience and ask them
to not throw firecrackers before a beautiful Going To California,
It's very difficult to play when you see crowds
of people swaying. Keep it cool. Stand still. We don't want to see
anybody get hurt. Page and Plant get into a
bit of Johnny Burnette's Cincinnati Fireball before Black Country
Woman, and Jimmy fingers fly across the fretboard during a very good
performance of White Summer, and a thunderous Kashmir ends this epic
medley. Unfortunately, the last half or so of the show is missing.

This
is another fragmentary document that remembered the worst incident
in the band's whole career. Due to a rowdy audience, a young
boy was pushed from the stadium's level straight into the street,
where he was stuck by a car accidentally and died. An explosive The
Song Remains The Same open the gates, and Nobody's Fault But Mine
finds Jimmy warmed up and playing more fluently. Since I've Been Loving
You is drastically cut just after as the song starts, and the recording
picks up again just before the start of the acoustic set. The Battle
Of Evermore is received with a loud and positive applause, but the
rest of the acoustic songs are not taped. The recording continues
within another good sounding, compact version of White Summer, where
you can feel the anticipation just prior to the bombastic Kashmir.
Plant hints at Candy Store Rock before Moby Dick, but unfortunately
this is taken no further. Page's guitar solo is well constructed and
features a bit of Dixie and The Star Spangled Banner anthems for the
very first time during this sour. The transition to explosive Achilles
Last Stand sounds quite mysterious, and the encores are consists of
energetic Rock And Roll and a somewhat sloppy Trampled Underfoot.

CD Reference(s): How
Many More Years Gone With The Wind (The Chronicles Of Led Zeppelin)
A very good early and energetic show, but the quality is completely
rough. The opening combo, The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again,
is pretty heavy and rocks hard. Page blazes through an excellent guitar
solo during a truly thunderous Nobody's Fault But Mine, and the song
begins a sequence of three great blues based epics. In My Time Of Dying
finds the whole band locked in a near perfect synchronization, and Since
I've Been Loving You is dramatic and has a fascinating solo from Jimmy.
The instrumental section during a long No Quarter is absolutely fantastic.
Jones' piano solo is followed by an excellent boogie workout and Page
delivers a phenomenally expressionistic, abstract guitar solo that is
unfortunately cut. Ten Years Gone is usually erratic, as Jimmy fumbles
through an out of tune guitar solo. The meandering White Summer and
its Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song medley sounds massive in
this recording and leading up to one of the more intense versions of
Kashmir. The guitar solo is getting longer day by day, and includes
another snatches of Dixie and The Star Spangled Banner before seguing
into a devastating Achilles Last Stand that brings the house down. Stairway
To Heaven is quite good, and two dirty encores consisting of Rock And
Roll and Trampled Underfoot caps this event for good.

The
concert itself is a truncated performance with some nice highlights
and strange wandering that are interesting to hear. The start is kept
at a brisk pace, The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again have Page
in a very nice form, he also blazes throughout a powerful Nobody's
Fault But Mine. In My Time Of Dying is played more slowly and lightly
than usual, and Jimmy and the rest of the band are a bit lost in a
few spots. The epic No Quarter contains the earliest reference to
Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Nut Rocker during a long middle section. Jones
gets a bit ahead of himself as the piece comes to a close and begins
to play the main theme before Page and Bonzo pull him back. The second
half of the song is spectacular, with a heavy stop-start section followed
by a catchy guitar riff before the song leads into its conclusion.
Sometime after as another flubbed version of Ten Years Gone ends,
someone threw a bottle at the stage that hit Jimmy's guitar and this
pissed him off much, so he said fuck off!
The Battle Of Evermore finds Plant shouting the lyrics with unheard
of hostility, adding a new dimension to the piece. The set concludes
with a somewhat uneven White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song combo that segues
into a heavy sounding Kashmir. The noisy guitar solo is still quite
condensed and Achilles Last Stand, while begins unsurely, picks up
by the middle. Stairway To Heaven features a great and extended solo
from Page, and the only one encore, a frantic Rock And Roll, makes
the audience absolutely mad.

This
is the iconic Destroyer tape immortalized as one of the most legendary
bootlegs ever, and this is just a fairly played show with some nice
moments. It starts off a bit rough and Page's fingers are constantly
getting stuck in the strings during The Song Remains The Same, but
the things pick up a little bit during Sick Again, where he slashes
and shreds through the bone-crushing rhythm. Nobody's Fault But Mine
has a really nice soloing from Page and the drumming is truly visceral.
In My Time Of Dying is bombastic, but Jimmy misses few cues, and Since
I've Been Loving You is usually nuanced and excellent. The ominous
introduction to Jones' piano solo during No Quarter is fantastic.
Unfortunately, a cut in the tape soon after leaves us at the end of
the upbeat interlude. Page delivers an erratically epic guitar solo,
punctuated by Bonham's violent outbursts. Ten Years Gone is finally
more polished, but it still lacks coherence, and the long acoustic
set is usually mellow, and concludes with a delicate versions of White
Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song medley that leads to a powerful Kashmir. The
drum solo in Over The Top sounds impressive on this tape, as it includes
the extensive use of a spaced-out phasing effect as Bonzo hammers
at his tympani. The guitar solo once again repeats a bit of Dixie
and The Star Spangled Banner before as it segues into a massive violin
bow solo and leads to a heavily performed Achilles Last Stand. Jimmy's
fingers are a bit sticky during the first guitar solo, but overall
this is another rather solid version of this song. Stairway To Heaven
features a beautiful orchestration from Jonesy, and Page disappears
suddenly near the end of his solo, leaving the rest of the band to
fill the void for the remainder of the song. Two encores closes this
gig, a frantic Rock And Roll with Jimmy again dissapearing for a while,
and the pulsating Trampled Underfoot that shares some intensity and
put some vibe at the very end.

After
many mediocre quality performances, this is surprisingly one of the
best shows from the whole tour, and Page and rest of the band are
on fire. From the opening notes of The Song Remains The Same, we can
feel this going to be something special. Sick Again is incredibly
heavy, the whole arena quakes under the power of Bonham and Jones'
bone-crushing rhythm. Nobody's Fault But Mine features a truly outstanding
solo from Jimmy. This is follows by another stunning version of In
My Time Of Dying that blow the walls down with visceral energy. Jones
and Bonham are locked into a frantic interplay, and Page plays with
an incredible intensity. Plant and Bonzo get into a bit of Elvis Presley's
Surrender as the song ends. A peacefully powerful Since I've Been
Loving You is a drama. Robert and Jimmy tease the crowd while Jonesy
adds flourishes on the keys and Bonham's drumming is superlative,
the band does not force a thing. No Quarter is epic performance, where
Jones begins his solo in a classical vein. Page attacks his guitar
with a staggered fury of leads, adding to the dramatic effect, and
the outro is kept in a haunting havoc. Ten Years Gone is an excellent
and strong version, even Jimmy plays solid here. Plant hints at Dancing
Days and Bob Dylan's Blues before Black Country Woman, which features
one of his best Elvos-like vocal impressions. The crowd erupts as
a beautifully woven White Summer gives way to one of the best version
of Kashmir ever. Bonzo's drumming is incredible, and aggressive howls
from Robert keeps the crowd into a frenzy atmosphere. Page gives a
showcase of his considerable skills during a spine-chilling, spacey
guitar solo, and Achilles Last Stand is convincing, with the whole
band sounding just great. The set closer, Stairway To Heaven, features
an epic guitar solo, which is delivered in a dynamic and emotional
mood. As the band returns to the stage, they deliver a chest-thumping
Rock And Roll and a massive Trampled Underfoot, where Jimmy gives
a heavy guitar solo. A must-hear!

The
record-breaking last gig of the first leg of the tour, but the quality
is mediocre at best. Page seems to be again fully focused here, as
his fingers race across the fretboard during a frantic The Song Remains
The Same and Sick Again. The massive crowd is very unruly, so Robert
addresses for some coolness a few times during the show. Jimmy is
very spicy and fast during Nobody's Fault But Mine, and In My Time
Of Dying features excellent workouts from him and the rest of
the band. No Quarter is a highlight of this event, the composition
is extended and really dynamic with Jones getting a nice solo spot
and then enters Page for some of his finest, significantly fluid work
of the evening. Ten Years Gone is another very good version, it seems
like the band, and Jimmy especially, finally found the way to play
this tune properly. The acoustic set is subtle, but unfortunately,
the delicate atmosphere is ruined by a series of firecracker blasts.
A still compact and reliably short medley of White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song combo is followed by a massive Kashmir, where Plant delivers
a powerful vocal performance. His banshee howls echo over the crowd
as the band hammers through the thunderous march. Page's guitar solo
makes this part of the show sounding ethereal but haunting and sometimes
cacophonous, and Achilles Last Stand is very muscular and explosive.
Stairway To Heaven is met with a loud cheer from the crowd, followed
by a barrage of firecracker blasts again. Jimmy's solo goes with impressive
pale and the start stop section is really good. The encores are standard.
A vivid Rock And Roll gets the audience to a fevered pitch, and Trampled
Underfoot is wild.

A mostly intense
show and the beginning of the second part of the tour.
The opening salvo of The Song Remains The Same into The Rover jam into Sick Again is great. However, at the end of the guitar solo in Nobody's Fault But Mine Jimmy is out of tune, making this version less powerful than usual. Within a thunderous In My Time Of Dying everything
returns to the expected form, and Since I've Been Loving You is beautifully mournful. Page seems to be having a bit of trouble with his wah-wah
pedal as No Quarter begins, this is rewarded with Jones' piano solo that develops into a fantastic
hard rock jam. The band experiments with a variety of different styles
and rhythms during an extended, wandering guitar solo, and the ending
has Robert pushing his voice to the breaking point with his vocal
histrionics that are literally show stopping. Jonesy debuts with his triple neck acoustic in Ten Years Gone, which is a
bit sloppy at times, as Jimmy's fingers get stuck in the strings during
the guitar solos. The acoustic set is really solid instead, except
for Plant, who flubs the lyrics on The Battle Of Evermore. Page plays
his masterpiece, White Summer, in a somewhat loose form before as
Kashmir enters. Bonham's drumming is spot on and the Jones' travelling
orchestra keeps everything in a nice vibe. The guitar solo is an aural
and visual feast and certainly has the attention of everyone in attendance,
and Achilles Last Stand features Page experimenting a little during
the intro as he changes the phaser from the usual setting. Bonham
thrashes at his drums with incredible intensity, making this song
a visceral attack. A brutal Rock And Roll is the only encore this
time.

One of the most legendary live shows ever, considered as a true Holy Grail and recorded by one of the most eccentric taper. The level from the previous day is continued here with just some flaws, the explosive opening medley of The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again push the listener to the floor. The sophisticated Nobody's Fault But Mine with a great solo by Page is followed by the aggressive In My Time Of Dying, where Bonham blows everyone away with his powerful playing. The first moment of subtlety is achieved with emotional Since I've Been Loving You, after which a slow and piercing No Quarter is about to begin as the next tune, and where we can once again listen to the wonderful interaction between the musicians. The improvised middle section seems to never end, and the outroduction is simply frantic. The acoustic set brings moments of rest, where Page and Jones engage in excellent dialogue. The Battle Of Evermore is performed with full of emotion and brings a kind of mysticism to the arena, making this as one of the best versions from the tour. During White Summer, Jimmy loses its fluidity for a while, but the monumental Kashmir makes up for it in two ways. A nearly eighteen-minute drum solo feels like it lasts only just a short moment, and the extravagant guitar solo leads into the bombastic Achilles Last Stand. Page again stuck in the strings in a few places, but the rest of the band is incredibly thigh and fluid throughout the whole song. During the long solo in Stairway To Heaven, Jimmy again lost his consistency, as he seems to be just tired, and the show is finished with typically brutal Rock And Roll.

The performance is a bit of a mixed bag here, with Page being sloppy at times, and where looseness prevails over tightness. However, this is the night of Bonham's playing that is explosive and lightning fast. Things get off to a somewhat shaky start as Jimmy's fingers become entangled in the strings during the guitar solos in The Song Remains The Same. They all get a bit lost also following the third verse during Sick Again. Page tries to warm up with his playing in a somewhat sluggish In My Time Of Dying, and Since I've Been Loving You is absolutely fantastic, resembling the versions from the past tours. The epic No Quarter is a typical highlight. Jones' piano solo develops into an extended shuffle jam as Jimmy and Bonzo join in, and the outro has Page shredding wildly over the rest. Ten Years Gone is yet another uneven version, with Jimmy being out of tune in a few spots. Page and Plant hint at Custard Pie while waiting for Jonesy to retrieve his standup bass prior to Black Country Woman. The usual medley of White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song has Jimmy in a good form as the band launches into a bit erratic Kashmir. The drum solo loses some energy created during the show, but the guitar section that features an eerie version of Bouree brings it back and gives a pinch of magic before a frantic version of Achilles Last Stand. The whole band is in on top form and delivers a strong version of this epic tune despite some erratic playing in the latter part. The encore run of Rock And Roll, where Page misses the opening bars, and a plodding Trampled Underfoot is played for the final time.

This
is overall a great show, and the crowd is riotous that adds a certain
amount of tension. Both The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again are
sounding very tight and devastatingly heavy. Nobody's Fault But Mine
has a nasty guitar solo from Page, and is like a train wreck. The
start of In My Time Of Dying is stopped and has to be started again
due to malfunction of the guitar. This is a strong version except
for Jimmy, who starts playing a few bars behind the rhythm section
near the end, and it is rather hilarious at how long they go on before
finally reconnecting. No Quarter is an excellent performance with
another cool rendition of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Nut Rocker interlude.
During the middle section, they break into another great jam that
keeps up the excitement and features some magical moments from Page.
His execution of the main solo in Ten Years Gone is very nice this
time, and the medley of White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song is quite
accurate. A powerful Kashmir storms the stage, where Bonham throws
in a couple extra fills in a few spots. The inclusion of the haunting
and doomy violin bow solo during an experimental guitar section draws
cheers and applause from the audience as always. Page has some trouble
with his tuning in Achilles Last Stand that sounds rather average,
but he does his best to mask it. Stairway To Heaven, on the other
hand, is epic on every level and he gives a nice solo break before
bringing the main set to a close. The encore set begins with the first
appearance of Whole Lotta Love since two years, although only as a
one-verse-long prelude to a thunderous Rock And Roll. The biggest
surprise of this gig comes as Plant introduces Mick Ralphs of Bad
Company on second guitar before an impromptu excellent rendition of
Jerry Lee Lewis' classic, It'll Be Me, where Jimmy gets completely
drowned out.

A relatively
strong concert and the start of a four consecutive night run in Landover.
The band plays with a confident feel, and even Page seems to be quite
strong for the most part. The Song Remains The Same is on a high level
of consistency. However, Nobody's Fault But Mine starts off a bit
out of tune and continues with Jimmy hitting bum notes in the solo.
The rhythm section hammers through a sharp-sounding version of In
My Time Of Dying, but Bonham misses his first note at the start. Page
makes his guitar squeal with excitement during that song, this can
be noted also as he begins the solo during Since I've Been Loving
You, and his middle workout is rapid and stays emotional at the same
time. No Quarter is a rather compact version on the other hand, not
extending beyond twenty-two minutes and as always featuring a nice
impromptu middle jam. Ten Years Gone catches all four members in a
fine form as they play a much rehearsed version of this piece. The
audience becomes a bit impatient with this part of the show and starts
to throw firecrackers during Black Country Woman and Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp
medley. A powerful Kashmir is a standard performance, and Page's guitar
solo is usually spacey. Bonzo pummels his drums with incredible intensity
during an explosive Achilles Last Stand, where Jimmy comes close to
replicating the profundity of the studio recording, and this makes
this version sounding truly great. They close the event with a short
but heavy Whole Lotta Love that fades into a riotous Rock And Roll.

The band is extremely loose as the show gets underway, but the latter part marks some weaker moments. They are in a good shape during The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again. A somewhat sluggish but energetic Nobody's Fault But Mine open the run of blues tunes. In My Time Of Dying is usually strong and Plant sounds quite syrupy, it also features some excellent guitar licks from Page. His great playing is continued in Since I've Been Loving You. Jones' piano solo during a nice rendition of No Quarter is introduced by a series of echo-heavy Theremin bursts over Bonham's rolling tympani. Following a dramatic grand piano interlude, Jimmy and Bonzo join in for a great rock jam. The three musicians play as one, completely in synch with one another, as they create a miniature rock opera. The acoustic set is delivered with delicate precision. Black Country Woman is preceded by an abbreviated acoustic rendition of Dancing Days, its first appearance for four years. A solid rendition of White Summer segues directly into a massive Kashmir, where Plant is lost with some of its lyrics for a while. The first rather low-key point to this concert is an extremely extended Moby Dick, clocking in at almost thirty-five minutes and losing the momentum of inspiration. Page seems to be in a floppy mood during his guitar solo and Bonham comes in too early as Achilles Last Stand starts, creating a strange new arrangement. The encore set is also erratic, with a short Whole Lotta Love, where Jimmy teases the audience with a riff to Communication Breakdown, and average Rock And Roll.

The third and the weakest performance of all four in Landover. The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again sound shaky and weak. The band improves a bit during Nobody's Fault But Mine, but In My Time Of Dying has a longer than usual pause before they start the fast boogie section. You can imagine them waiting on Page to initiate, so they can start rocking for good. The erratic atmosphere continues with Since I've Been Loving You. Bonham sounds tired as Jimmy shreds through laid-back solos. No Quarter is better, although this version is a bit disjointed when compared to previous nights. The first half of the improvisation is dominated by a very melodramatic and sad melody on the grand piano, and Page is somewhat lost in his guitar solo. These issues are mostly gone during Ten Years Gone, where Jimmy delivers an excellent solo in the middle. He fumbles through a sticky-fingered White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song combo that leads into a sluggish Kashmir. The drum solo in Moby Dick is yet again extended to more than a half hour long and is simply boring. Curiously, the experimental guitar section that usually includes Page playing some anthems and recognizable melodies is missing them completely. Achilles Last Stand sounds quite tight and heavy, except for the opening riffs, which are played too early. Stairway To Heaven has Jimmy running out of gas about halfway through the guitar solo, and the song limps to its conclusion. The encores, Whole Lotta Love and Rock And Roll, are played out of habit instead of joy.

Playing
the final night in Landover motivated the band to perform one of the
more significant performances from the tour. The start is a bit sluggish
though as both The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again have Bonham
drumming with some hesitance. Nobody's Fault But Mine is excellent,
but is plagued by mistakes caused by unruly audience members. While
Plant plays the harmonica, someone fires a bottle rocket at him, lighting
his shirt on fire and forcing him to take it off. In My Time Of Dying
is marked as a huge improvement, even if Bonzo is experiencing some
trouble keeping the beat during some spots. Robert is in top form
here, belting out each line with power and intensity. An expressive,
great version of Since I've Been Loving You has Page erupting a furious
cascade of notes during the blistering guitar solo. An amazing No
Quarter follows. Jones' dramatic piano solo develops into a frantic
rock improvisation as Jimmy and Bonham join in. Page leads the band
on an epic journey as he tears through an outstanding and endless
guitar solo. He also blazes through the guitar solo during Ten Years
Gone with incredible fluency and precision, making this version pretty
good sounding. The acoustic set is plenty of vibes. Plant sings a
couple lines of Elvis Presley's Surrender before a vivid Black Country
Woman, while Jimmy is in a good condition during casually meandering White Summer and
Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song medley. Kashmir is truly powerful. Robert's aggressive
howls echo through the arena and into infinity, and Bonzo's drumming
is simply devastating. The guitar solo is consistent, and the violin
bow episode sounds quite doomy in this show. All four members hammer
frantically through a thunderous Achilles Last Stand, the brutal sonic
assault is unbelievably explosive. When they return for the encore
section, a usual short medley of a visceral Whole Lotta Love and riotous
Rock And Roll can be heard as a set closer. A must-listen!

The infamous ill-fated gig in Tampa might be an excellent show, but it has been abruptly cut due to a severe thunderstorm, which resulted in a mini riot by pissed off fans upon its cancellation. The playing is exceptional and gutsy, it gets off to a strong start with a frantic The Song Remains The Same. Jimmy is in a great shape, his fingers fly across the fretboard as Bonham thrashes wildly at his drum kit. Plant barks aggressively as the band hammers through Sick Again, and Page shines through all the guitar solos once again. Bonzo misses a cue as Robert begins the harmonica solo during Nobody's Fault But Mine, but quickly gets back on track. As the song ends, he announces that the storm is coming and the band needs some break to avoid potential electrocution, We want you to bear with us because there seems to be some water falling on the electrical equipment. So we're gonna give it a fifteen minute break. Are you cool? Unfortunately, the subsequent riot would cause the local police to prevent the event from being rescheduled.

This
is the first of a six-night residency in New York, and a quite strong
performance at that. The frantic The Song Remains The Same and heavy
Sick Again are good openers, and Page is in a great shape during a
fast solo in Nobody's Fault But Mine. In My Time Of Dying is bombastic
and is dedicated to the British Queen. Tonight
is the beginning of the celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Silver
Jubilee, and that's a heavy thing for us, so we'll do this one
for Liz! said Plant to the noisy audience. This
is followed by a dramatic Since I've Been Loving You, with many emotional
guitar workouts from Jimmy. A twenty-five minute No Quarter marks
one of the highlights of the show. Jones incorporates some classic
arrangements before as the rest join in for another frenzied rendition
of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Nut Rocker, while Page shreds wildly through
an excellent guitar solo as Bonham relentlessly hammers at his drums.
Once again, Ten Years Gone is performed with confidence, and the whole
acoustic segment is delicate and interrupted by a barrage of firecrackers
in a few spots. Jimmy and Robert get into a tongue-in-cheek rendition
of Frankie Laine's Rawhide before Black Country Woman. A virtuoso
performance of White Summer is followed by a powerful but bungled
Kashmir, where they all completely loses track of one another during
the latter half of the song. The noisy guitar solo is usually very
spacey and haunting before as it segues into a very dynamic Achilles
Last Stand. The band closes this night with a short medley of Whole
Lotta Love and Rock and Roll, getting caught up in the frenzy atmosphere,
where everyone chases each other that makes for a very bizarre arrangement.

Behind The Stacks (Wendy Records) & In Celebration For A King: Second

A representative
second night at the Garden, but not as energetic as the night before.
The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again are just good and solid.
Nobody's Fault But Mine continues the strong start, where Page's playing
and timing is spot on. Another intense version of In My Time Of Dying
keeps the band in an excellent mood, but Since I've Been Loving You
sounds a bit weak in contrast. The very long No Quarter is an interesting
rendition. Jimmy throws some Theremin in early on and Bonham almost
seems to be either ready or pushing to go into the rock jam interlude,
however Jones keeps the melody in a more traditional mood before as
they go through it. The middle guitar section is somewhat uneven,
but this is rewarded by an expressive ending. The excellent Ten Years
Gone marks a nice continuum of playing before an acoustic set, where
Plant does a quick line from Gallows Pole before a subtle Going To
California. He even drops a quick line from Dancing Days before a
solid Black Country Woman and Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp combo that gets the
audience up and clapping hoedown style. White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song combo are played in a loose if not erratic vein. The transition into
Kashmir blows the audience away, Bonzo is again the star of the show.
The guitar solo is kinda careless this time, lacking its ominous feel,
but is followed by a visceral Achilles Last Stand that finds Page
to be close to perfection and Bonham is yet again out of this world.
The usual encore segment includes a warmly greeted Whole Lotta Love
and a racious Rock And Roll.

The
third night in New York City and a great playing throughout most of
the show. The Song Remains The Same is a riotous explosion of energy.
The walls of the arena quake during a powerful Sick Again that finds
Bonham drumming in extensive vein. A significant change in the setlist
early on is noted by replacing In My Time Of Dying with somewhat erratically
sounding Over The Hills And Far Away for the first time in two years.
Plant loses his place as he begins to introduce No Quarter, but realizes
they are about to play Since I've Been Loving You. His voice is in
perhaps the best shape of the tour as he bravely hits some of the
high notes. An epic No Quarter is next. Jones plays a very confident
and happy sounding solo on grand piano, and Page delivers a fantastic
guitar solo during the extended instrumental section. Ten Years Gone
is very good except for Jimmy, where he loses control on the solo
a little bit but recovers nicely soon after. The acoustic set is just
priceless. Unfortunately, the delicate atmosphere is interrupted by
the restless rumblings of a rowdy crowd. Page again hints at Dancing
Days briefly during Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp and his showcase, White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song medley, is as meandering and spontaneous as
many on this tour. A thigh drum solo is followed by a great version
of Heartbreaker, played only a handful more times afterwards, and
is thrown in only when the band are feeling particularly confident.
The guitar solo continues to expand in both length and complexity,
with Jimmy creating vast sonic landscapes of electronic noise, but
Achilles Last Stand is married by out of tune guitar. The encores
are explosive, with a frantic Whole Lotta Love and wild Rock And Roll.

fourth night at the Garden, the playing is very intense, and the crowd
is just wild. The show begins with an aggressive The Song Remains
The Same that segues into a bombastic combo of The Rover and Sick
Again. A thunderous Nobody's Fault But Mine has Page in excellent
form, and In My Time Of Dying sounds extremely heavy, even Plant's
vocals carry a significant amount of weight. Jimmy's soloing is elegantly
restrained during a somber Since I've Been Loving You, which is another
dramatic version of this gorgeous song. No Quarter is stretched to
thirty-two minutes and it's simply fantastic. The improvisation begins
slowly, as if Jones were trying to figure out what direction he wanted
to take the journey. Page coaxes him in one direction with subtle
little notes until it picks up steam. Then the band moves as one as
they expertly traverse the vast musical terrain, led by the urgent
cadences of a volatile guitar solo. Bonham skips some of his drum
beat during Black Country Woman, disturbing the atmosphere a bit.
On the contrary, White Summer is improvised and leads into a monumental
Kashmir. The transition is very dramatic and washes over the audience
like a huge wave. Jimmy's showcase, the guitar solo, is mysterious,
and once it gets into the bow interlude, it becomes more haunting.
Achilles Last Stand suffers unfortunately from an out-of-tune string
guitar from Page, but the rest keeps this tune at a frantic pace.
He solders on as best he can, but there are some very painful bum
notes and the closing chimes sound sour. Thankfully, Stairway To Heaven
is powerful and extremely tight, and to a big surprise, a vital version
of Heartbreaker is chosen as the only encore this time. Highly recommended!

The most powerful and strongest gig of all six at the Garden that brings to mind the spontaneity of previous tours. The explosive The Song Remains The Same keeps everyone into havoc, and a brutal Sick Again follows with impact. Nobody's Fault But Mine is an excellent version, very confident and gutsy. Over The Hills And Far Away is next, where Plant attempts to sing the chorus in its original melody, even though he really has to strain. However, Page shreds through a wildly dissonant guitar solo and recompensate that minor fault. If the previous night's No Quarter was excellent, this version is out of this world. Jones' piano solo gives way to an excellent upbeat boogie as Jimmy and Bonzo join in during the middle section. The long instrumental jam reaches its peak with an outstanding guitar solo from Page, his masterful finger work leading the way as the band embarks on an epic musical journey. Ten Years Gone is simply amazing. Jimmy blazes through the guitar solos with amazing fluency and precision. Robert hints at The Lemon Song before a foot-stomping Black Country Woman, where another Dancing Days can be heard, and White Summer is preceded by a long pause due to Page dropping his guitar and knocking it out of tune. The following Kashmir is shattering and kept in an exquisite style. A riotous Heartbreaker is again played as a set changer with a blistering middle segment. The guitar solo omits the usual The Star Spangled Banner section this time, and it creates the space for a long experimental section before Jimmy goes to the doomy bow solo. It segues eventually to the thunderous and visceral Achilles Last Stand, with Bonham trashing frantically at anything within reach as Page shredding erratically, all of these making this version an utterly devastating performance. To keep the frenzy atmosphere, the band closes the event with a heavy-pounding Whole Lotta Love that is followed by the first appearance of Black Dog since their last North American visit. A must-listen!

The final night at the Garden and another excellent show, where the band is three hours late, so Robert claims, We must apologize for the delay, but there was a real reason for it. I've got no clothes to wear. It starts off with a fiercely energetic The Song Remains The Same. All four members are on fire, they play every note in a super-thigh fashion. Page's fingers are like razor blades as he slashes and shreds through an erratic guitar solo during Nobody's Fault But Mine. Plant again tries to sing the chorus of Over The Hills And Far Away in its original melody but falls short, and Jimmy seems to be all over the place during the guitar solo. He reverted to the sharp, angular soloing style characteristic of the previous tours in Since I've Been Loving You that stops the hearts of the crowd. Another extended version of No Quarter can be heard next and is simply fantastic. Page and Jones get into a spirited interplay prior to an epic guitar solo section, and the ending is typically piercing, having Robert howling his voice to the limit. On the other hand, Ten Years Gone is kinda sloppy, where Jimmy nearly destroys the guitar solo. Plant hints at Gallows Pole before The Battle Of Evermore and a snippet of Pinball Wizard from the repertoire of The Who can be heard at the beginning of Black Country Woman. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp features again a bit of Dancing Days, and Kashmir ia a powerful performance. Unfortunately, the recording ends just over three minutes into Moby Dick, and the latter part of the show is only available on fragmentary video footages.

This concert ranks among the less successful on this tour. Page is in great form, Plant hitting some of his best notes, Jones plays some outstanding melodies, but Bonham is so indisposed here that he constantly misses breaks and tempo. It is apparent right from the beginning in The Song Remains The Same and in the segue into The Rover. Nobody’s Fault But Mine finds him losing track of the breaks and Jimmy plays a sticky-fingered guitar solo. In My Time Of Dying is not better and sounds disjointed. Page is on fire during Since I've Been Loving You, which features the last known organ accompaniment of this tune, which is just gorgeous. Unfortunately, Bonham's erratic drumming frequently disrupts the somber mood. The gig starts to improve really with an excellent version of No Quarter. With Jonesy and Jimmy taking the lead, Bonzo dutifully follows along, and they deliver a very interesting improvisation in the middle of the piece. The acoustic set is when they noticeably loosen up a bit in a great way. They even play a bit of Elvis Presley's Mystery Train as a prelude to Black Country Woman. What's interesting, Bonham is absent for the remainder of the acoustic set and Page plays again a bit of Dancing Days during Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp. He and Jones truly take the lead in Kashmir and resist the drummer’s attempt to steer the song into disaster. Over The Top is thankfully dropped and Jimmy goes straight into his experimental solo and Achilles Last Stand that comes off quite strong despite of drumming. To compensate for the all the shortcomings, the band makes a fair version of Stairway To Heaven. The two erratic encores closes this event for good.

The first of six sold-out glorious nights at the Forum, and a legendary Eddie show. This is a killer performance, and the playing is so intense that it can be easily rated among the top ten best gigs ever. Following a shaky performance two nights earlier, Bonham is back with a fury, thrashing at his drums in a violent explosion of energy as The Song Remains The Same crashes into motion. Page's guitar cuts out briefly during the intro of superb Sick Again, causing a moment of confused hesitation at the beginning of the first verse. Nobody's Fault But Mine is devastatingly heavy and features a blistering guitar solo. As the song ends, Plant prises a come back to the West Coast by saying, It is indeed, uh, our great pleasure to be back in California, for many many reasons. Among those it's very hard to see the sun in a place bigger than New York. This show has probably the best version of No Quarter ever played live. A series of haunting Theremin howls introduce Jones's ominous piano solo, and Jimmy and Bonzo join in for an outstanding blues improvisation some time after. The whole band is absolutely on fire during the fantastic guitar solo section, slowly building tension until everything erupts in an explosive climax, crashing down on the crowd in thunderous waves. The end is an epic drama, where Page violently shredding during the devastating outro. Ten Years Gone is excellent, keeping everyone in a top form, and the acoustic set is beautifully peaceful, where Plant hints at Gallows Pole once again just before as Black Country Woman starts. Jimmy's showcase, White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song medley, is more compact here and is absolutely stunning before as it segues to one of the most powerful renditions of Kashmir. Jones' droning keyboard symphony washes over the crowd as the band defiantly marches into battle. There is a long pause before Over The Top, during which Robert pokes fun at Bonham as he tries to fix a problem with his drum kit. The crowd goes wild as Page begins a riotous Heartbreaker. His fingers tear across the fretboard in a furious cascade of notes during the blistering guitar solo. A lengthy guitar solo is very spacey and includes a variety of melodies before as it goes through an extremely haunting bow section. They all hammers through a very aggressive Achilles Last Stand at a frantic pace, making this version one of the best of the tour. A solid Stairway To Heaven finds Plant pushing his voice to the limit, and two encores of Whole Lotta Love, preceded by a heavy a cappella intro, and a racious Rock And Roll summarize this memorable evening. A definitive must!

The second show at the fabulous Forum, and this is another heavy gig. However, the quality is not as brilliant as the day before, and there are a few bummers here and there. The Song Remains The Same is kept in ferocious tempo, and Sick Again is exceptionally brutal. The band hammers through a bone-crushing In My Time Of Dying, even getting into an impromptu lemon-squeezing interlude following the You Shook Me tease. Since I've Been Loving You is incredibly raw and powerful, and the thirty-three minute No Quarter is an epic journey. Jones's piano solo gives way to an excellent blues rock jam before Page embarks on a long, wandering guitar solo. The middle section is much extended this time, and features a variety of different improvisations. Ten Years Gone is a bit more loose, yet still quite strong rendition. The acoustic set is usually great, with usually inspired The Battle Of Evermore, subtle Going To California and a long medley of Black Country Woman and Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp, where Page breaks a string unexpectedly, leaving Jones to improvise a short bass solo. The song's momentum is disrupted briefly as Jimmy pauses to tune the guitar upon his return. The crowd erupts as the band launches into a devastating Kashmir. Plant's aggressive howls echo through the arena as the band hammers through the thunderous march. The first mention of the mysterious Badge Holders phrase comes as Robert calls Bonzo a friend of a diamond-studded Badge Holder as his drum solo comes to a close. The biggest surprise of the night is the inclusion of Over The Hills And Far Away so late in the set, where Plant has returned yet again to the quasi-original melody for the chorus. The long guitar section is very atmospheric, and a frantic Achilles Last Stand falls apart in a couple of different places for Page, who broke a string near the middle. A wildly cacophonous combo of Whole Lotta Love and Rock and Roll caps this event for good.

The third night at the Forum and a famous Badge Holders show. The concert itself is one of the most laid back, loose and exciting of the entire tour. There were many problems, beginning with Page breaking his guitar strap during The Song Remains The Same. He had to finish playing the song sitting on the drum riser and is the cause for the break before Sick Again. Nobody's Fault But Mine is simply superb, and Plant dedicates Over The Hills And Far Away to perhaps one of the biggest dreamers in the world. A star quality badge holder to Mr John Bindon. The unquestionable highlight of this gig is a jaw-dropping No Quarter, considered by many as the best version of this song ever. The instrumental section is introduced by an extended electric piano interlude, where Jones' fingers dance across the keys during the solo, which develops into an outstanding blues improvisation as Jimmy and Bonzo join in. The band moves as one as they embark on an epic journey, led by the urgent cadences of Page's blistering guitar solo. The frenzy reaches its peak during the violently explosive finale. They are all in high spirits, joking around with each other as Robert attempts to introduce another spectacular Ten Years Gone, with Jimmy blazing through his guitar solos. He announces, Tonight's word of the concert is Badge. If you are a badge holder of a rock star, you are somebody to be reckoned with. Are you a badge holder? He also hints suddenly at D'yer Mak'er just before Black Country Woman. The band gets completely lost for a while after Jones misses a change during Kashmir, taking an eternity to get back on track. To change the programme, they play an impromptu version of Trampled Underfoot, where Page disappears momentarily during the second verse. The biggest surprise of the night is the unannounced appearance of a drunk Keith Moon, running onstage during Bonham's drum solo, and introducing him in some uncensored words. Achilles Last Stand is a frantic explosion of energy. Jimmy shreds through the solos as Bonham pummels the crowd with his thunderous pounding. The main set ends with an epic Stairway To Heaven that features an excellent guitar solo. Keith Moon returns to the stage for the usual short encore set, ranting and raving about rock and roll before a ferocious Whole Lotta Love and a dirty Rock and Roll. A must-have!

The fourth night in Los Angeles and what an incredible concert. Jimmy in particular is doing some of the best guitar of the tour, and the entire band is in a no nonsense mood, playing the best they can. While the guitar playing is almost to a fault at times during The Song Remains The Same, sloppy Sick Again and a somewhat erratic Nobody's Fault But Mine, where Plant again mentioning "badge holders" before the song, this is fully rewarded with the final live performance of In My Time Of Dying. This is simply excellent version, and features a short impromptu rendition of Little Richard's Rip It Up. A laid back but very emotional Since I've Been Loving You is followed by another amazing No Quarter that has an excellent blues improvisation during Jones' piano solo. Page really sizzles in the main solo spot, but it’s Bonham who is stealing the show, he is very involved in the movement of the piece. A lovely version of Ten Years Gone can be heard next, where Jimmy once again delivers a great solos. Robert introduces the acoustic set to much applause, where he gives a history lesson as an intro to an excellent version of Black Country Woman and Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp all out jam. Page does a decent job on White Summer that is beautifully meandering until Kashmir explodes, and the orchestration fits perfectly with the powerful thunderous fills from Bonzo. A blistering version of Trampled Underfoot features a great guitar solo from Page. His experimental section is mysterious and doomy, containing parts of Dixie and The Star Spangled Banner again, and leads to a frantic Achilles Last Stand, where all four of the members just firing on all cylinders. The encores begin with a standard and heavy and short Whole Lotta Love that is preceded by a funky intro, and an unexpected but very explosive Communication Breakdown that has its only live appearance during this North American visit. Another must!

The
fifth night at The Forum, and yet again the playing and singing are
top-notch, with everything being extremely concentrated on the music. The usual
set openers, The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again are frenzy,
and this is continued with Nobody's Fault But Mine, where Page shreds
heavily through the solo. After as the song ends, Plant continues
the badge holders references by saying, Anybody
been to any of the other concerts? So by now you're all familiar with
the term to be a Badgeholder, right?, and dedicating
Over The Hills And Far Away to Richard Cole. Jimmy tears through a
wild, spaced-out guitar solo over a funky groove courtesy of Jones and Bonham. The long No Quarter lasts past a half hour and like the others
fromt his run can be considered among the best. Jonesy plays nice,
melodic themes during the grand piano section before Page comes in
with the guitar to lead it to the more traditional doom and gloom.
He later shreds wildly through the song's explosive outro, making
this version a unique and memorable rendition. The biggest surprise
is an extended acoustic set, though. The band is very loose, and play
close to a full version of Elvis Presley's That’s All Right
prior to Black Country Woman. This gives a momentum of fresh breath
before as Jimmy wanders through a long White Summer and Black Mountain Side/Mustapha/Swan Song medley, after
which a thunderous Kashim appears. The experimental guitar solo stretches well beyond twenty-one minutes in length here,
and containing some unfamiliar melody over the already known themes. A visceral
Achilles Last Stand has Bonzo thrashing at his drums with incredible
intensity, with Page adding blistering guitar workouts throughout
the solos. Stairway To Heaven is simply awesome, and they play Jerry Lee Lewis’ It’ll
Be Me as the only encore, closing this show with a truly riotous
mood. If only quality could be better ... a treasure!

An endless, final concert that closes out the six-night-stand at the Forum, and the end of their second leg of the tour. Unfortunately, the frenzy is wearing thin. Page's fingers get stuck a bit in the strings during The Song Remains The Same, they all flirts with losing harmony during Sick Again, and Plant's voice takes a few songs to really warm up. On the contrary, Jimmy adds a beautiful prologue to the beginning of Over The Hills And Far Away, where he plays through an extended guitar solo. The marathon No Quarter is the first highlight of the show. During the long improvisation in the middle they play a catchy boogie section before the dark, brooding and intense solo that is magisterial in construction. The ending erupts in a furious cascade of notes, summarizing this spectacular showcase of skills. Page stumbles through a lackluster version of Ten Years Gone, unable to find his footing during the guitar solos. The acoustic set is again relaxed and unique, as it contains a one-minute-long rendition of Muddy Waters' I Can't Be Satisfied prior to Black Country Woman. Jimmy breaks a string in the middle of Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp, which features an abbreviated acoustic rendition of Dancing Days during the breakdown. The seemingly endless and very erratic White Summer is the longest ever from this tour, and it segues into a mediocre Kashmir, after which they hammer through a swingful Trampled Underfoot that features a nasty, wicked guitar solo from Page. Interestingly, Moby Dick omits no stick section and is more compact, but the much extended noise solo sounds inconsistent at all. What's worse, Achilles Last Stand is close to a fault, where both Page and Bonham are partially unpredictable. This mood is also continued with Stairway To Heaven, where Jimmy fumbles through a choppy solo. The encores are kept in a better shape, closing their farewell performance in the city that has become their second home.

The start of the ill-fated third leg of the tour in a huge and echoey venue. The Song Remains The Same sounds a bit rusty, the spark of energy present in Los Angeles gigs has died down, obviously. Plant experiences some vocal troubles during Sick Again, and Page plays erratically through the solos. Over The Hills And Far Away is again truncated by Jimmy, as it suffers from inconsistency. The things are getting better with inspired No Quarter. Unlike the much improvised versions played in Los Angeles, this one is much slower and well-thought-out. Jonesy tries several ways to get the audience involved in the piece, including standing up and encouraging they to cheer. This cannot be said about a very loose version of Ten Years Gone, where the whole band fumbles and misses the clue throughout the song. To continue this bad trend, Robert completely loses control of his voice near the end of The Battle Of Evermore. He can be heard coughing off-mic as the song comes to a close. Because of a broken string during Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp, Jones improvises a short bass solo, which transforms into an interesting, tongue-in-cheek rendition of Frank Sinatra's It's All Right With Me as Plant and Bonham join in. A rather average Kashmir is followed by the very last Moby Dick performed live, which should be also shorter. Equipment troubles force Page to abandon the electronic noise section during his experimental solo. It segues into a weak if not disastrous version of Achilles Last Stand, which even has Robert a bit embarrassed. The main part is closed with a fairly good Stairway To Heaven. The encores are out of tune Whole Lotta Love and a dirty Rock And Roll that finishes this mediocre show.

After the reliably accessible Seattle performance, this is no doubt the worst gig they ever played! The whole band seems to be sloppy, Plant sounds tired, and Page is missing almost all his solos. Due to a big delay, the concert was also shortened and the encores as well as drum solo were dropped out from the set. This also a fragmentary recording, missing the first part of the show, starting with a very low-key acoustic set. The first sign of problems mentioned starts with a wasted Trampled Underfoot, where Jimmy turned in a very uninspired guitar solo. Then, he chose not to perform White Summer and its usual medley. Instead, he played a few bars of Black Mountain Side before going into Kashmir, but without the rest of the band, who seemed to be totally lost. His noise solo is a mess, but the real bummer is Achilles Last Stand that can be called a total disaster. Jimmy constantly gets lost in the arrangement, resulting in a chaotic cacophony of mistakes as the band struggles to get back on track. The distracting effect continues through the initial verses of an uneven Stairway to Heaven. At the end of the song, Bonham is in a hurry to end everything and was off his drum stool and gone before Robert finished the final lyric.

The first of two huge Oakland concerts, the band sounds sluggish and sometimes even on the verge of mistake. They played in the afternoon, which prompts Plant to make an appropriate comment before as The Song Remains The Same is launched. However, Page again experiences a sticky-fingered syndrome, and many of his solos are sloppy. Plant is also not in the best shape, he has trouble hitting some of the higher notes near the end of Nobody's Fault But Mine. They are almost lost at the end of Since I've Been Loving You, but progresses with a vibey No Quarter. Page is absent for most of the honky tonk breakdown, leaving Jones to vamp alone. His guitar workouts are like razor blades as he slashes and shreds through an erratic but yet interesting solo. This cannot be said about Ten Years Gone, where he completely destroys the first guitar solo, leading everyone to an abrupt break. The intimate acoustic set is interrupted by a loud audience and missing its intimacy. A vital Trampled Underfoot is now performed before a mediocre White Summer that segues to Kashmir that sounds kinda rough. Without the drum solo that has been dropped for good, the shortened experimental guitar solo follows, which now has no sign of the noise section. A frantic Achilles Last Stand marks the return to a bit better form. Unluckily, Stairway To Heaven is again disturbed by the average playing. To add some spice, they play three encores, closing the show with a somehow loose Black Dog. However, it was nothing else but a heavy brawl between Bonham and some of the road crew with one of the members of the local security that makes this event so infamous, heralding the coming misfortune.

In the second afternoon Oakland show the playing is more intense, although still somewhat hurried due to the obvious circumstances. It turned out to be also their last performance in the North America ever. Both The Song Remains The Same and Sick Again are nothing more than average, and the band loses track of one another at the end of the latter, but Nobody's Fault But Mine is really good, where Page shreds through a blistering guitar solo. As the song ends, Plant is trying to get out of the very awkward situation from the previous day, We thank Bill Graham for putting on a most spectacular, I think he built the place especially for rock concerts. Jimmy hits a great guitar workouts during Since I've Been Loving You, and the more compact but still interesting No Quarter can be heard next. They skip the upbeat interlude, instead heading directly into meandering guitar solo. To make the things more exciting, the song was interrupted by a local female dancer. The more subtle Ten Years Gone is free from any bigger mistakes, and the acoustic set is extended with a fantastic impromptu rendition of Elvis Presley's Mystery Train prior to a foot-stomping Black Country Woman. They all hammers through an aggressive Trampled Underfoot, which features a wild guitar solo, but Kashmir is quite dull. Achilles Last Stand again teeters on disaster until it falls apart near the end, Stairway To Heaven sounds also weak. The set is completed with two encores of a rushed Whole Lotta Love and very sloppy Rock And Roll that closes this mixed performance.
