Recording: (*)Excellent mono soundboard; (**) (***)Very good mono professional radio broadcast; (****)Fair to Good mono audience; (*****)Fair mono audience. Source: (*)Fillmore West, San Francisco, California Jan. 11 '69; (**)Rhythm & Blues, Studio 4, Maida Vale, London, England Mar. 19 '69; (***)Tasty Pop Sundae, Studio 2, Aeolian Hall, London, England June 16 '69 (attributed incorrectly as Mar. 19 '69); (****)Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, Maryland May 25 '69; (*****)Oakdale Theatre, Wallingford, Connecticut Aug. 17 '69; (+)not from actual broadcast. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe single glossy sleeve. June 16 '69 not mentioned on cover. This title by Equinox presents four documents from various sources through the first couple months of 1969. The first five tracks on this single disc are a soundboard recording of the first set from January 11, 1969 show at the Fillmore West on their first US tour. This fragment had previously been released on "Birth Of The Gods" (Balboa Prod.), "Psycho A GoGo" (Led Note), and Hampton Kicks (House Of Elrond) and has since been released on the Akashic label ("Syonen Zep Zokango Tokubetsu Furoku") and "Pb+" on Wild Card. This title presents a longer source of the soundboard, with a substantial section from How Many More Times and the encore of Communication Breakdown. March 19, 1969 session had previously been released as "Sunshine Woman" (Flagge), and "Ottawa Sunshine" (House Of Elrond). Equinox includes What Is And What Should Never Be, as did Flagge, which is not from this session but from June 16, 1969. This title is equal to the Elrond release in sound quality, and a bit more complete since it contains Korner's intros. It does contain Korner's intros to the different songs, whereas the Elrond release does not. It seems the intros are out of order (Korner gives his closing remarks before I Can't Quit You Baby). This title is a good way to get this session in good quality. Whole Lotta Love from Columbia May 25 1969 is the same as on the other releases of this pae, in both sound quality and completeness. But Wallingford August 17, 1969 show is missing I Can't Quit You Baby (for unknown reason), which is present on previous releases of this fragment ("Red Snapper Deluxe" on Balboa and "Tales of '69" on Tarantura). All in all, a good compilation.
