The cuts in "Dazed And Confused" and "Whole Lotta Love" from 4/26/69 performance available on the original tape were gently eliminated due to the modern mixing. Empress Valley has chosen to call the release Avocado Club, in reference to the famous green Fillmore series poster of an avocado announcing the four Led Zeppelin concerts in April 1969. The source tapes for the two shows have been circulating for years. The sound quality on "Avocado Club" is equal to the best versions available for both nights. What makes the Empress Valley release so valuable is that this 6 CD set includes the audience source for both night on discs 1-4 and a seamless mix of the soundboard and audience tape from the 27th of April on disc 5 and 6, available together for the first time in one release.

Deluxe jewel case housed in card slipcover with liner in Japanese and English on insert. Includes sticker. One of few overlooked box sets from Empress Valley. Firstly the 1972 concert, which is yet again ruined by bad equalization, and is a big disappointment. Having heard the original recording and it sounds far better than this shoddy release. Amazingly Empress Valley did not tamper too much with the 1975 show, and this sounds much the same as the original recording. They must have slipped up no doubt. Finally the 1980 soundboard is released yet again, the market is awash with Brussels 1980 soundboards. This does not sound too bad, but has too much top end and not enough bottom end. At least the gaps in the board tape have been neatly patched with the audience recording. This would have been quite a good release if only the 1972 and 1975 shows were released (and the sound left alone).

Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe hinged box with two individual paper cases holding CDs. The inner sleevs are reproductions of the typical yellow BBC Transcription Series vinyl sleeves. Some very few box-sets were sold with TMOQ-style sleeves because not enough yellow BBC sleeves were made. This title has been released with two different covers. The "Maxell is Pleased to Present" version has black artwork from a famous promo only radio LP, while the "Floating Pig Blimp" version has famous William Stout white artwork which has been used on many of previous LP and CD release. Also reissued as a standard jewel case with the same catalogue #. What we in the collectors' circle were mostly frustrated with the official "BBC Sessions" release in 1997 was its incompleteness. To our joy, however, Empress Valley has released a 4 CD set covering chronologically all of the BBC radio sessions that the band had in its history. The title says, the materials included in it are very complete, covering every tune played and every interview or chat, if any, recorded at the respective sessions. In addition, the quality of the audios allegedly made from Pre-FM Master Reels is also of excellent quality, almost equal to that of the versions in the official release, except for the band's session for "Rhythm And Blues" recorded on 16 March '69 which is said to be rather made from an Aircheck Master. Even the audio of the "Rhythm And Blues" session as featured in the new title is a slight upgrade over that of the past title "Sunshine Woman" on Flagge label. As especially noticeable from the deeper echoes of Robert's voice in many songs of April 1, 1971 concert, the audio mix in the title is clearly different from the versions in the official release, which serves as an evidence that the title was not made by simply copying the official versions.

Source: Great Western Forum, Inglewood, Los Angeles, California - CD1 thru 3 Mar. 24 '75; CD4 thru 6 Mar. 25 '75, CD7 thru 9 Mar. 27 '75. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe hinged hard shell box covered in metallic silver houses three hardcover sleeves. Included a large replica of 1975 tour book, poster and a liner notes in Japanese and English. The disc number 7 (matrix# "EVSD-162" time=69:38) was missing 40 seconds of the introduction and almost 35 seconds of Rock And Roll. A "replacement disc" (matrix# "EVSD-162B" time=70:54) was issued shortly afterwards correcting the two mistakes. DVD is closed in a mini-bookstyle cover. This very, very rare item contains all three March 1975 nights in near most complete condition. Originally announced in 1999, delayed until 2000, available finally in 2003, this set has been a long time coming and there is a vague reference to this in the liner notes. Perhaps one of Empress Valley's most unique offerings to date. In 2008, the label issued Xmas edition with a slightly different cover and in a slip housing three individual gatefold sleeves. It imitates "Physical Graffiti" artwork. The content and catalogue #'s are the same.

By far this is Empress Valley's most ambitious release to date. The box is identical in shape to the one used in the official "Complete Studio Recordings" box set Atlantic issued several years back. At the time of its release this was the most complete version of all five Earl's Court tapes gathered in one piece. But now there are some significant upgrates to these concerts so this item must be dedicated to more ambitious collectors.

The sound is totally unbelievable in stunning soundboard quality! This sounds very much like a professionally mixed tape, all the instruments and vocals are perfectly balanced, and audience noise is mixed into the background. You can hear all the sound effects in perfect quality. Also between some songs you hear comments from Page and Bonham.

FOR YOUR LOVE ~ THE LEGENDARY FILLMORE SERIES - WEST VOLUME 4
EMPRESS VALLEY SUPREME DISC EVSD 414/415

CD1: The Train Kept A Rollin'/I Can't Quit You Baby/As Long As I Have You medley incl. Fresh Garbage, Shake/Dazed And Confused/How Many More Times medley incl. Guitar Improvisation based on San Francisco theme, Dream Lower, The Hunter, Tobacco Road
CD2: White Summer medley incl. Black Mountain Side/Killing Floor medley incl. Improvisation based on What Is And What Should Never Be theme and Bring It On Home theme/You Shook Me/Pat's Delight/Babe I'm Gonna Leave You/Communication Breakdown/For Your Love
Recording: Good mono audience. Source: Fillmore West, San Francisco, California Jan. 10 '69. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe double slimline jewel case. "For Your Love" is the fourth of Empress Valley's Legendary Fillmore Series and sounds very similar to the other complete versions. EV have increased the volume over Wendy so it is easier to hear, but there is more noticeable distortion in the higher end too which becomes annoying, especially through headphones. Overall the Empress Valley is a slight improvement over previous releases but not by much and doesn't warrant an upgrade in your collection.

Recording: Excellent stereo soundboard. Source: Tarrant County Convention Center, Fort Worth, Texas May 19 '73. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe long box in a form of a four sided sleeve around cardboard tray. As usual, Tarantura released their version of the well-traveled Fort Worth soundboard tape on "I'm With The Band". Empress Valley have their edition on "Fort Worth Express" and it follows along the same lines as their previous treatments of the ninth U.S. tour soundboards. "I'm With The Band" emphasizes a narrow range with the upper frequencies cut off, but Empress Valley is much more broad in sound. With the work done on the lower frequencies as well this edition sounds much more natural and easy to listen to although there is some residue of their remastering present.

Recording: CD1-3 Excellent stereo soundboard; CD4 Good mono audience. Source: Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York, New York July 29 '73 (July 28 '73 tape was used to fill the end of Dazed And Confused, all of Stairway To Heaven and count-in to the Ocean). Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe hardcover book with 17-page booklet and with liner notes in Japanese and English on insert. Includes sticker. The missing section for the soundboard recording is from the last part of Dazed And Confused, all of Stairway To Heaven, and the beginning of The Ocean. Most intelligent people would have used the audience recording from the same night to fill the gaps. Unfortunately Empress Valley are not from this school of thought. Instead the cretins filled the gaps by using the soundboard recording from the previous night. The previous night's soundboard source kicks in at 25 mins. 04 secs. into Dazed And Confused. At least on this release they own up to their stupidity, as for the first time on one of their releases they actually state where the missing section comes from. This is in stark contrast to many previous releases where they fill the gaps from different shows, tours, planets, etc. This has totally spoilt what should have been a very important addition to the Live Underground repertoire.

Source: Chicago Stadium, Chicago, Illinois - CD1 thru 3 Apr. 6 '77, CD4 and 5 Apr. 7 '77, CD6 Apr. 9 '77, CD 7 thru 9 Apr. 10 '77. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe large glossy box with hinged lid including hard mini-LP paper sleeves for each disc. DVD is closed in a mini-LP paper sleeve too. Another very, very rare set, this time combining of mixture of all four nights in Chicago. The sound is a bit better than the older releases. This set is recommended to the die hard Zeppelin collectors only. The average collector would consider this a bit of a rough ride. Until new sources or soundboards surface from these nights, this will probably be the definitive and maybe only updated release of these shows.

CD2: Immigrant Song/Heartbreaker medley incl. Bouree/Dazed And Confused/Bring It On Home/That's The Way/Bron-Yr-Aur/Since I've Been Loving You
Recording: CD1 Very good mono audience; CD2 Good to Very good mono audence. Source: CD1 Civic Center, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Apr. 14 '70; CD2 Milwaukee Arena, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Aug. 31 '70. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe jewel case. "Just The Crowd And..." collects two fragments from two radically different Led Zeppelin tours in 1970. The first disc contains the incomplete fragment of the Ottawa show from late in the spring tour. This comes from a fifth generation copy of the master cassette and first surfaced in the mid nineties from the same person who also possessed various other tapes from Ontario shows. Empress Valley restores Dazed & Confused to its proper place in the set list. The second disc is a re-release of the hour-long Milwaukee tape that first surfaced around the same time as the Ottawa tape. Overall, another title by the currently budget conscious Empress Valley, this is good value for those who have not yet acquired these tapes since the older releases are now scarce. Although there is no significant improvement in sound quality over the other versions this is no worse than the others either and the label didn't try to "improve" them either, which could potentially ruin what are otherwise very acceptable tapes. Just The Crowd And... makes it convenient to have these two great fragments. What also binds these two tapes together is the tragedy that both of these shows are complete on tape but the missing portions are still being hoarded after all this time.

Recording: CD1 Very good to Excellent mono audience; CD2 Poor to Fair mono audience. Source: CD1 Schaefer Music Festival, Wollman Rink, Central Park, New York City, New York, New York July 21 '69; CD2 Swing Auditorium, San Bernadino, California Aug. 8 '69. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe jewel case. The 2nd disc is a special bonus disc. This version of the often-released Central Park show sounds as good as the Sanctuary and Tarantura versions. It isn't as loud as Sanctuary or as "fat" sounding as the Tarantura, and the closing remarks by the tapers at the end of the show are missing. As said before, the first edition of "Live At Central Park" comes with a free bonus silver CD containing the Rubber Dubber master of the August 8th, 1969 San Bernardino tape. (On the back EV encourages the buyer to look at their copy for this). This tape first surfaced more than a decade ago and really hasn't been seen since its initial release. Many collectors claim this is clearer than the Rubber Dubber tape although it is tough to tell listening to this.

The album was withdrawned after as Empress Valley received many negative responses due to claim as these tapes are comes from Kevin Shirley's multi-track recordings prepared for November 2007 reissue of both The Song Remains The Same soundtrack and movie. The title is also a butchered and chopped-up version of Winston Remasters' home-made release. Only the DVD is well worth having part of this collection.

Great Balls Of Fire, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, Move On Down The Line/DJ Gino Closing Announcements/Communication Breakdown (52:33)
Recording: Excellent/Superb stereo soundboard. CD1-2 are a mix of the soundboard and the Kevin Shirley multitrack mixes; CD3-4 are strictly from the Kevin Shirley multitrack mixes. Source: Royal Albert Hall, London, England Jan. 9 '70. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe quad gatefold cover housed in card slipcase. Discs 1 and 2 primarily sound excellent but they do contain sections of tape edited in from various lesser quality sources. Assumed that Empress Valley wanted to try and present the show in its most complete form. They include the Heartbreaker medley incl. Bouree segment taken directly from the credits of the official "DVD". How Many More Times has several edits where they restored missing sections of tape and Communication Breakdown has the second half of Page’s solo spliced back in, as well. Long Tall Sally from disc two is much more complete but entirely from the fair sounding video soundtrack. Discs 3 and 4 sound superb all the way through and are missing the sections edited into discs one and two. This presentation of the show was mostly copied from the "DVD". The version of Heartbreaker medley incl. Bouree here on disc 3 is longer than the version on disc 1 and features two minutes more than what the "DVD" offers, including the song’s introduction. Why they wouldn’t use the longer one in both versions is mystery. Both of them sound excellent. Communication Breakdown is featured twice on disc 4. The first is unedited, containing all of Jimmy’s solo (consistent in sound quality), and the bonus track is the edited version that matches the "DVD" exact. The bonus version is irrelevant and redundant and Long Tall Sally is basically the same one used for Empress Valley’s "The Lost Mixes EP Voume 7" with slightly more time after the song.

Recording: Superb stereo soundboard (multi-track). Source: The Old Refectory, Student Union Building, Southampton University, Southampton, England Jan. 22 '73. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe gatefold paper sleeve. Empress Valley didn’t tweak the tape as much as the other version and as a result is much closer to the version posted online with a thick, heavy bottom to the sound. In fact the timings of the discs are almost identical to the internet version. The dropouts and channel fluctuations are still present, as are cuts. The most noticeable are right after Since I’ve Been Loving You at 7:45 in the track right before Page’s Old McDonald’s Farm doodle, before Stairway To Heaven which eliminates Plant’s commentary (his introduction to the song is present, but it sounds as if he was saying more as the tape cuts in), and at 19:47 in the Whole Lotta Love medley, cutting out a bit of the guitar solo during the I Can’t Quit You Baby section.

DVD-Audio: As Long As I Have You medley incl. Fresh Garbage, Shake, Mockingbird/I Can't Quit You Baby/The Train Kept A Rollin'/Babe I'm Gonna Leave You/Dazed And Confused/Killing Floor/For Your Love
Recording: Very good to Excellent mono audience. Source: Whiskey A Go-Go, Los Angeles, California Jan. 5 '69. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe jewel case. Includes sticker. The title features, for the first time almost 38 years after the event took place, the second oldest tape in the history of the band that has surfaced so far. The recording is pretty good for the era. Actually, it is of quality almost equal to that of a "soundboard" recording. For curiosity, a photo of a box of the SONY PR-150 reel tape which seems to be the master tape of the recording is shown on the back cover of the title. On the back side of the case, in addition to the English notes "SIDE 1 Ch.1 LED ZEPPELIN at Whisky A Go-Go Jan 5, 1969 Side 2 Ch. 1 L.Z. 'For Your Love'," there are some Japanese characters written on it, saying "Ch.2 Japanese xxx...", but they are really hard to read for English viewer. Overall, the tape is certainly a very welcome, find with which we can experience a compact, primitive but young and powerful Zeppelin. Triple thumbs up for this great release by EV! The title is composed of a DVD-Audio with still photos featured and a CD, but the audio contents are the same as between the two different mediums. Reissued as standard jewel case edition, without DVD-Audio.

Recording: Good to Excellent mono/stereo audience (it depends on sources). CD9 is sourced from vinyl. Source: Great Western Forum, Inglewood, Los Angeles, California Sept. 4 '70. Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe large glossy box with hinged lid including hard mini-LP paper sleeves for each disc. The box actually included all five sources. And, whereas Tarantura2000 attempted to present each source individually, Empress Valley's release instead presented four of the sources as mixes, plugging the gaps in each with one of the alternate sources. Why they left the final source in the box (Rubber Dubber source) intact/incomplete is anyone's guess. Perhaps due to it being the shortest of the sources, or perhaps because it's sourced from vinyl. Very rare.

The claim is they are "pre-vocal" mixes but it's hard to understand what that means exactly. They are the identical takes and mixes found on the official releases sans vocals. The variations are very minor like the lack of the fade for Out On The Tiles. The final track on this release, When The Levee Breakes does sound legitimate. The sound isn't as heavy and deep as the official release and probably it's from the tapes before Page went Sunset Studio in Los Angeles. The vocals are more clear and lyrics are much more understandable giving a different perspective on this Zeppelin classic.

Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe jewel case. Tape one starts off with Sugar Mama, an outtake from 1969 and believed to have been considered for the "Coda" project. Poor Tom is lacking the vocals and the first version of Walter’s Walk is the unfinished basic track, missing vocals and the guitar overdubs. The version of Night Flight included here is the mix that features the background vocals. The remainder of the songs from tape one are the same tracks used for their official release in what might be slightly different mixes. Tape one seems like it could have been Jimmy Page’s vision for "Coda" before the Royal Albert Hall material was considered for inclusion. Tape two is kind of a disappointment. It sounds like a pre-mastered copy of "Coda", one or two generations from the master. The only differences detected are that Bonham’s count ins for Bonzo’s Montreux and Wearing & Tearing are intact (also included on the takes from tape one). Ozone Baby even cuts in, missing the first few seconds.

Stereo and mono versions sharing the same catalogue # on two pairs of CD sources. Includes sticker. "Three Days After" is the second Empress Valley release in a row (first was "The 1975 World Tour") which attempts to release a decent version of a well known but flawed tape. This six-disc set, utilizing a name that has always been associated with the show, presents the only extant tape source which was produced by the TMOQ people. Originally source was plagued by several problems. Empress Valley produced a six-disc set where they present the unadulterated stereo recording on the first three discs and the same exact tape with the same timings and catalogue number on the second three discs but in mono. The stereo version is a tough listen since the left channel keeps cutting in and out throughout the first hour of the tape. The second three discs are an attempt to help smooth over the problems and present a better listening experience and it works to a degree. The right channel is duplicated to create a faux stereo effect and sounds nice. ut the tape wobbles and speed issues are on the actual master cassette there is very little anyone can do and the label makes a brave attempt but the problems are just as annoying on the mono as it is on the stereo. Generally, "Three Days After" on EV is an admirable release that is enjoyable and is worth having.

Much improved over Watchtowers' "San Diego 1973" which was plagued by tape cuts, particularly during The Rain Song. There's a snippet of tape not listed on the track listing that helps unravel the mystery of why Moby Dick was played out of sequence at this show.
